Review: The CityBar is an intimate neighborhood bar where you can dance all
night with locals. Its billed as an urban, sophisticated jazz, NeoSoul bar that has been open in SL since 2005, although under different
ownership. Current Owner Cosmopecan Kawabata started out as the bartender and is now the owner. He is quick to point out that the place is a bar,
not a club. Its a place for hanging out with friends and dancing to good music. The bar is small and intimate but the space is well designed.
Longer that it is wide, optimum use has been made of the space. When the door is opened, the guest's name is announced to the crowd. Either
CosmoPecan or the DJ will greet the guest thereafter. To the left as you come in you can wander over to the bar, which is well stocked and nicely
lit. There is a good amount of seating as well. A glass wall separates it from the main dance floor so you don't have to miss any action.
The dance floor is ample for the small crowd. But even if twenty avatars show up they will still be able to fit. A dance placard on the wall
offers a small selection of dances. There are also couples dance balls. Marjorie Dibou and Brittany Troncon are the regular DJs. Tables with
chairs are scattered around the dance floor. A small lounge area is formed at the end of the room opposite from the bar by a big comfy leather
sofa, coffee table and a couple of chairs. If you are a female avatar the sofa is so deep you can stretch your legs out fully, a very nice touch
if your feet are tired after hours of dancing. This little cozy area looks out through the pane glass window onto a patio outside, were you can
sit if its too hot inside. The bar is nicely decorated with lithographs of urban scenes and images of prominent African Americans. Hours are
7-9pm SL (PST) four or five days a week. However, one night the folks kept rocking even after the owner left. If you tired up the big clubs where
you get lost in the crowd, try The CityBar. In no time at all you'll be a regular “where everybody knows your name.”
Conclusion: Intimate and friendly.
