Review: Have you ever wanted to take a vacation on a
cruise ship in real life but haven't been able to? You can get the same experience in Second Life on the SS Galaxy, which
duplicates the fun and classy atmosphere of a real cruise ship.
This ship has just about everything. They have art galleries, a spa, a
Japanese garden, an arcade, a theater, pool, skating rink, cafe, ballroom and more. You can even rent a room and live on the ship, but you do not
have to be a resident to hang out and enjoy the wide variety of attractions. Pretty much everything is free, but a few things will require
money. For example, the games in the arcade cost one or two $L to play, and you may need to buy skates to use the rink if you don't already
have some.
This place really has an authentic feel. The ship is 3 sims long and
surrounded by water on all sides to make you feel like you are out to sea. The only flaw is that due to its size it may take a moment to
rez if you are walking end-to-end. There are directories on the wall so that you won't waste your time searching the huge area for the
attraction that you want, but I found that just walking around and seeing what I came to next was fun too.
There are a few places to eat on the ship, and even though eating is not a
necessary activity in Second Life it would be a great place to go with a date simply for the romantic and calming atmosphere. If it is just
you and some friends, hang out in the pool or see a movie together. The place is never crowded to the point of lagginess but it is not
devoid of life either. There are usually people hanging about enjoying the different activites, with many empty spots for two lovebirds to
retreat to if they feel like it.
Sometimes you can also find staff to answer any questions or help with
rentals. Overall this place is really worth checking out, even if only for the novelty of visiting a realistic cruise ship. If you
are looking for a place to hang out with friends, kill time by yourself, or even live in it can be that too.
Conclusion: Second Life’s virtual cruise ship is worth checking
out.
