Review: Botanical is one of the largest plant shops in Second Life,
but it is much more than just that. Not only does is sell a wonderful range of plants from stately gnarled old trees up to 50 metres tall,
but also scripted water, garden sounds, fog, rainbows, even sunlight! Not only is this one of the most impressive stores in Second Life it
makes full use of its grounds in a wonderful way to show off products making this more a stately garden or park than a run-of-the-mill Second
Life mall. Spread over its own sim, Straylight, the central part of the sim contains the main store with all products displayed and
available for sale; the outside of the sim contains marvellous woodland and riverside walks, under trees shedding their blossom or
elsewhere showing the full colours of autumn. You can walk alongside babbling brooks and roaring waterfalls, and over deep gorges. This is the
perfect setting for the store to show off its products.
Most of the plants on display are flexi-prim trees. They vary from cherry trees in full
blossom to acers in autumn colour to stately architectural cypresses. Not only do you get the flexiprim tree itself, but also the falling leaves,
ground cover or blossom, even the tree’s shadow. This makes them some of the most realistic and impressive trees available which provide a
perfect centre-piece for a garden or court-yard and will make any setting seem grand. However, the grandest of these trees are not exactly
low-prim and are certainly not designed for small plots as they may take up as much as 67 prims for just one tree, although smaller lower prim
trees are available from just 15 prims. The “accessories” tend to be scripted items, such as sunlight, moonbeams or butterflies and also add a
degree of grandeur to any garden.
Considering there are so many free trees and plants available in Second Life prices in
Botanical are not cheap, starting at, for instance, 250 lindens for a small cherry tree to 675 lindens for a the largest cherry tree. However,
the quality is worth paying for. You can buy single items or if you are planning a larger landscaping enterprise you can buy a “pack” with full
modify and copy rights.
If you are looking for something to make a stunning garden, or if you want a beautiful walk, visit this store.
Conclusion: Fantastic quality and realism beyond compare.
